A year-round highlight at Zilker park in Austin are the Botanical Gardens. It is a great place for nature lovers and gardeners to come and enjoy a relaxing and beautiful environment tucked away near downtown Austin. Entrance to the park is free of charge for everyone.

The garden is around 30 acres in area with plenty of trails to and paths to enjoy. Starting from the visitors center headewd east (counterclockwise), will take you to the Isamu Taniguchi garden, a beautiful Japanese garden complete with small Koi ponds and beautiful groves of bamboo.

Traveling further around and north of the visitors center are the rose gardens. This area is more open and spacious with various architectural pieces to enjoy including a large structure called the "butler window", which is a favorite place for family and group pictures.

The last area before returning to the main garden center is the pioneer settlement, which shows a period blacksmith shop, house, and some farming equipment. Before leaving, make sure to backtrack south of the visitor center to see the Green Garden and the Cactus / Succulent gardens.

If you are looking to get some pictures of flowers, the rose garden has many great examples. Also, the entryway into the main garden center has a fantastic flowerbed great for taking some close-up pictures.

The Zilker Park Botanical Gardens are located on 2220 Barton Springs Road in Austin, Texas. The parking area and gardens are on the north side of Barton Springs Road. If you are coming from I-35, you can exit Riverside Drive and head west. Turn left onto Barton Springs Road. The garden entrance will be on your right when you pass Stratford Drive.

Parking is free and conveniently located to the garden entrance. The parking lot is a little small and may fill up during special events; if this is the case you may need to park in another area of Zilker park south of Barton Springs Drive and walk to the garden entrance.
